Why does it break long recordings into separate clips on the SD card? Why is it just not one file?

When using SDXC type cards, JVC cameras do not limit the file size on the memory card and will not break long recordings into smaller chunks.  This is because SDXC cards use the exFAT file system that will support larger files.  However, SD or SDHC memory cards have a file size limit by design (FAT 16/32), and therefore when using these cards, the camera will break long recordings into separate files to stay within the limits of what the card will store.  More information about the different file systems used with SD cards can be found here:  https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/choices/file_system/index.html
